New Vredestein Ultrac Vorti is the summer tyre for the premium segment
Apollo Vredestein will introduce its new Ultra High Performance summer tyre on 26 and 27 March in Budapest. Thanks to the modern design from Italian company Giugiaro, the Ultrac Vorti has a very sporty and distinctive appearance. In addition to its clean looks, the tyre excels in terms of grip, handling and braking on both dry and wet surfaces. The Ultrac Vorti has the Y speed index, meaning it can be used for speeds over 300 km/h. The tyre fully meets the practical and visual demands of owners of the most sporty and advanced cars.
Vredestein Premium Styling: Cooperating with leading partners
The Ultrac Vorti is the result of intensive cooperation between Vredestein and several renowned partners in the automotive industry. The tread was developed together with Giugiaro Design. This leading Italian company has been closely involved with the development of Vredestein tyres over the past 15 years. Highlights include the Ultrac Cento and Ultrac Sessanta, both of each achieved excellent results in leading independent tests. The name of the Ultrac Vorti was also created by Giugiaro. Inspired by the powerful vortex air flow that is generated, for example, when a helicopter takes off, the name reflects the huge speeds and forces that the Ultrac Vorti can handle, while the tread is reminiscent of the tips of helicopter blades.
Vredestein’s contacts with premium car tuners such as Carlsson, Arden and Lumma were also of added value in the development of the Ultrac Vorti. As the Ultra High Performance segment expects the most of a tyre, the Ultrac Vorti also has an excellent performance in extreme conditions. With its many years of experience and the cooperation with these premium car tuners, Apollo Vredestein succeeded in blending the most advanced technologies, design and renowned Apollo Vredestein safety aspects in the new Ultrac Vorti.
Design and technology combined
Whether looking at its tread or its sidewall, the Ultrac Vorti stands out for its sportiness, style and innovation, Moreover, the stunning design has been combined with the most advanced technical details. The outer walls of the two circumferential grooves have a double angle, one at a degree of 45° to ensure more block stability in the lateral direction and better compensate for the sideways forces around bends. The lateral grooves also have an angle of 10° to ensure even rolling characteristics, prevent uneven wear and maintain low sound levels. Special arrowheads in the tread reinforce the tyre’s course keeping ability.
Optimised for assembly on front or rear axle
Many sports cars have different tyre sizes for the front and rear axle to take account of their high engine capacity. For this purpose, the Ultrac Vorti has an adapted tread and dedicated construction for sizes used on the rear axle. As the front tyres discharge most of the water on wet surfaces, the emphasis for the rear tyres is on grip and stability, with a reduced air ratio and an adjusted belt angle for an exceptional grip. This makes the tyre even more safe and reliable.
In contrast to the more common 3-radii contours, the Ultrac Vorti has a 4-radii contour. This innovative solution increases the contact surface and ensures an even surface pressure distribution. When taking bends, the outer shoulder of the tyre carries the heaviest load, which results in changes to its footprint and surface pressure distribution. The renewed tyre contour ensures a smooth transition round bends. The tyre has an asymmetrical tread, and this asymmetry increases the outer shoulder’s contact with the road when manoeuvring to the right and left, building up a larger lateral force. This in turn has a positive effect on handling.
Low sound levels
The Ultrac Vorti has an intelligent, asymmetrical distribution of the tread blocks in the shoulder of the tyre. Together with an optimised angle of the lateral shoulder grooves this minimises noise production. Shifting the blocks on the inner and outer shoulder of the tyre in relation to each other prevents any sound amplification. This makes the tyre even quieter; not only when new but throughout its entire lifespan.
